I find algae growing for oil production quite fascinating, however I have been unable to find anyone actually doing this commercially. I find alot of people experimenting and universities doing varoius projects. If there is so much potential, why is it taking so long to get a facility up and running? Does anyone know of any companies currently producing oil or nearly to that stage? Are there any commercial algae oil growers in the United States yet?
There are no commecial operations at this time. There is potential but they are still trying to get a better return (in terms of oil) for the amount of algae. Many algae give a relatively poor return. Are there any commercial algae oil growers in the United States yet?
well its the cost to return problem yes we can make it but its not viable to be produced in any large quantities. so i would say that it will be near imposable to find any oil companies selling it.
I too am very interested in algae biodiesel production. Here is an article stating that Petrosun Biodiesel Inc. will begin producing Algae Biodiesel on April 1st (Very soon)! However, I have read that they are still working on bring down the production cost. Will see if it hits the market soon.
