Even if they started drilling today, it would have no effect on Gas Prices for 7 or 8 years.
I think we could get off of Gas in 7 or 8 years if we concentrate our efforts. Why does President Bush keep bringing up drilling for oil in the United States?
It is his back end black mail tactics. He knows that the American people do not want to accept offshore drilling to ruin our beautiful beaches, nor Alaska, so he want to play the blame game to act as if with out that, we are stuck paying inflated gas prices. He knows perfectly well we have options that will put the change the face of the energy industry - but they don't want those options. Why does President Bush keep bringing up drilling for oil in the United States?

We will not be able to meet the energy demands of this country in 7 or 8 years with alternative energy. If congress agrees today to drill, the price of oil will start to fall tomorrow. The speculators, who congress loves to blame, are only reacting to supply and demand. If they think future supply will increase, and the price of oil will go down, they will sell their futures positions that they now hold, because they will lose big bucks if they don't. When they sell and other futures traders sell, the price will come down. And Saudi Arabia will take notice also. This is the underlying economics behind oil prices, that most people don't understand. They keep on listening to people like Pelosi and the Demagogs.
Oil is the most efficient source of energy today, and for the next 50-75 years, period. Alternatives are fine and should be explored with great vigor, but are in no way ready for mass production ... and won't be for a generation or two. America has many known reserves, and the wealth potential for unlimited reserves given exploration and, yes, drilling.
Oil and gasoline are a fact of life, for the rest of yours. And even if the magical alternative is found, it'll take no less than 30 years to phase-out gasoline.
Drill here, drill now, stop funding South American and Middle East Tyrants.
If the American government announced an all-out drilling plan for oil, the price of oil would collapse overnight. Speculators rule this market. This is why the Saudi's want the price to come down, so they remain the leading exporter.
Most Americans want drilling. It would have an immediate effect. There are two kinds of futures market speculators. Traditional speculators need to hedge because they take physical possession of the commodities. But index speculators merely allocate a portion of their portfolio to commodity futures. Index speculation, according to Masters, damages price-discovery mechanisms provided by futures markets. Said simply: with index speculation you posses nothing but paper, so you play more easily.
because he wants the current group of oil companies to control even more leases to thwart competition.....
He knows they aren't drilling ';just cuz'; like everyone else does who really looks into these things.
';its too expensive to drill there'; ';its too hard to get too';
Oil is at an all-time high, wouldn't now be the time with prices continually rising to cash in on that?
Crude oil prices are from the futures markets. Any news changes the price per barrel on the futures market, and than affects the current price at the pump. Anyway, at least it's an idea, Obama has no ideas, he can only shoot down others, he has none of his own.
It's his parting gift to the oil executives that put him and his party in office.
The oil companies will sell it on the world market and the US may not see half of it, even then. Not worth the loss of another seafood source.
i really don`t know. everything i see or read says all that drilling is only going to give us 1 or 2% of the oil we use and won`t change the prjce of anything.
we should drill for it
Using the excuse that it wont help right away is a poor defense to not drill.
If the dems would have allowed us to drill when we wanted to we would have the oil already
Because Bush and Cheney are shills for the oil industry. And you're correct that a concerted effort towards alternate energy is better solution, both short and long term.
You re dealing with a giant populace who are not too caring
what happens to this Country,
