Why doesn't the United States use the oil in Alaska?

It's so silly to be dependant upon a natural resource that we possess and pay an country we are at war with for the very same product.

Hasn't oil been discovered in Texas too? If so, what about Canada %26amp; Mexico, has oil been discovered there and why aren't we using it?!Why doesn't the United States use the oil in Alaska?
fort mcmurray in alberta has the most oil in the world (random fact i happen to know)

and you are using a lot of itWhy doesn't the United States use the oil in Alaska?
I agree it is a bit silly. However we are using oil from Alaska, Canada and Mexico as well as Texas. These fields do not produce enough oil to satisfy demand in the USA. To become energy independent as a nation would require more development in Alaska, California and Florida. Whenever this is suggested, the opposition to any drilling has been strong enough to keep it from happening. See ANWAR.

So we are using the sources that you mentioned but there is much more to develop to attain energy independence.

Hope this helps
80% of imported oil comes from Canada.
We have been drilling and pumping oil up here since 1977. Our oil goes to the Lower 48. However, we do not have enough oil to satisfy the needs and wants of the USA.
